COLLABORATION + REFERRALS
Any animal professional you work with should feel comfortable referring to and collaborating with others when it makes sense.
Specialized behavior professionals, veterinarians, and veterinary behaviorists are the most common professionals we may recommend you work with instead of or in addition to us.
Learn a little about each:
SPECIALIZED BEHAVIOR PROFESSIONALS
Some animal behavior professionals have dedicated areas of expertise or hold specialized certifications that could make them a better fit for you and your dog.
A common example you’ll see referrals to is a CSAT (Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer), who has completed specialized learning and is uniquely qualified to address something that can be complex.
VETERINARIANS
A dog behavior professional (who isn’t a veterinarian) should never provide veterinary medical advice to you, but we do have a responsibility to recommend seeking veterinary care if we observe a need while we’re getting to know you and your dog.
We can all relate to how discomfort, confusing sensations, and pain influence our ability to navigate our mental, physical, and emotional world—the same goes for your dog.
Since veterinary medical and behavioral health are so intertwined and because many symptoms and conditions can limit or prevent your dog from making progress, behaviorally, we may recommend pausing your learning program while we help you work with a veterinarian who can rule out medical issues and/or provide care.
VETERINARY BEHAVIORISTS
A veterinary behaviorist is a veterinary doctor who, in addition to medical schooling and licensing, has completed a significant amount of advanced training and has become board certified in animal behavior. This is similar to a human psychiatrist.
Some cases we see benefit from or, in a handful of instances, require the expertise of a veterinary behaviorist.
If we recommend bringing in a VB, we’ll walk you through how to seek their support and what it looks like for us to collaborate.
WAYS TO LEARN TOGETHER
-
For folks not ready to commit to full learning programs, we can take it one session at a time.
This option can also be used for folks who would like as-needed support after they complete a learning program.
-
Packages of a set number of sessions where we’ll come to you to help you and your dog learn and grow together!
When you commit to a multi-session learning program, we lower the cost per session.
-
Many pet parents are ready to build a great relationship with their dog, but want more support than weekly sessions or benefit from their dog getting a head start before joining in to learn with their dog.
In our day training + coaching combo programs, we’ll train with just your dog multiple times a week, then regularly coach you and your dog together to keep you and your dog on the same page with the learning they’ve been doing with us!
-
When our availability allows, we love to offer 30-60 minute enrichment visits for folks who have already completed a training program with us!
When you schedule a visit, your trainer will come to your home (with or without you home) to engage your dog in training games and other types of enrichment to for fun!
This skilled support from someone who already knows and understands your dog is usually helpful for folks needing help meeting their dog’s unique behavioral health needs amidst a busy day or week.
